Warning signs you may be experiencing abuse

Does your partner...

  • constantly criticize, call you names, put you down or make you feel afraid?
  • interfere with your work, education or other personal activities?
  • limit or restrict your access to financial wellbeing (banking accounts, credit)?
  • accuse you of cheating?
  • control what you do, who you see, or constantly question you about where you went and who you were with?
  • deny you your basic needs: food, housing, medical and physical assistance?
  • threaten to hurt you or others, have you deported, disclose your sexual orientation or other personal information?
  • threaten to hurt or kill themselves
  • use or threaten to use weapons/object against you?
  • force/coerce you to engage in sexual acts?
  • hit, kick, shove or physically restrain you?

 

Do you feel...

  • anxious or afraid when you are around them?
  • you are walking on eggshells to avoid making them angry or upset?
  • you need to justify or make excuses for their behavior to your friends and family?
  • you are losing or sacrificing your hobbies, responsibilities, and other relationships in your life?
  • trapped in the relationship?
  • Guilty, ashamed, hopeless, or confused
  • like their abusive behaviors are your fault, or that you deserve to be harmed?
  • isolated and alone?
